Van Tellfaster was born and raised in Philadelphia, PA. He has a Bachelor of Arts in International Relations from St. Mary’s University, San Antonio, Texas. While still on active duty in the United States Air Force, Tellfaster earned his Masters Degree in Public Administration from the University of Oklahoma. He is married and is the proud father of two sons. \nVan Tellfaster spent a successful thirty-four years in the United States Air Force in various security and intelligence assignments. His most exciting assignments were in South Korea and Germany where he worked closely with military officials from both countries on a range of projects. As a young Airman, Tellfaster worked various security and law enforcement jobs in South Korea during a period of heightened tensions on the peninsula. In a subsequent assignment to ‘The Land of the Morning Calm’ as an NCO, Tellfaster’s leadership responsibilities increased. He was a Law Enforcement Flight Chief, and later became a Security Police investigator charged with investigating a range of incidents that occurred on the air base. \nAs a commissioned officer, Tellfaster was assigned to Wiesbaden, Germany, just before the Berlin Wall came down. As Intelligence Operations Officer Tellfaster supervised many operations that supported the European Command. \nUpon return to South Korea, Tellfaster commanded a small Air Force Intelligence unit, and later became commander of a Defense Intelligence unit during a time of tumultuous change in the military. Following the assignment in Seoul, Korea, Tellfaster moved on to Hawaii where he and his family spent three joyous, but busy years heading up a second intelligence unit. After three years in paradise, Tellfaster returned to the States to his final assignment at the White House, where he worked in the Office of National Drug Control Policy for the nation’s Drug Czar. Mr. Tellfaster retired from the military a little over one month before the terrorist attack on our nation in September, 2001. Soon after the historic attack, Tellfaster was briefly employed at the U.S. State Department in Diplomatic Security as a contractor, then went on to work for the United States Department of Transportation in a senior position where he maintained ties to the intelligence, law enforcement, and security communities until his retirement.
